Not Roasted Malt Price in China (FOB) - 2024

In February 2024, the average not roasted malt export price amounted to $688 per ton, increasing by 7.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $735 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to February 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($508 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Not Roasted Malt Price in China (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average not roasted malt import price amounted to $691 per ton, increasing by 8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 72% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,112 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($925 per ton), while the price for Germany ($436 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Not Roasted Malt Exports in China

In 2022, shipments abroad of malt (not roasted) was finally on the rise to reach 468K tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.

In value terms, not roasted malt exports surged to $285M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the amount of malt (not roasted) imported into China surged to 9.3K tons, rising by 20% against 2021. In general, imports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, not roasted malt imports skyrocketed to $6.5M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 105%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
