Onion and Shallot Price in Pakistan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average onion and shallot export price amounted to $338 per ton, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 76%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $407 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Bahrain ($350 per ton) and Malaysia ($342 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($330 per ton) and Sri Lanka ($331 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Price in Pakistan (CIF) - 2023
In March 2023, the average onion and shallot import price amounted to $287 per ton, rising by 2.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 42% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $302 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to March 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($338 per ton), while the price for Iran ($196 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
