Onion and Shallot Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
In September 2022, the average onion and shallot import price amounted to $885 per ton, which is down by -2.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 47% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,032 per ton. From February 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($4,671 per ton), while the price for India ($500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
In September 2022, the average onion and shallot export price amounted to $683 per ton, waning by -7.9% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a measured expansion from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, onion and shallot export price decreased by -7.9% against August 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2022 an increase of 56% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $887 per ton. From February 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($924 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia stood at $645 per ton.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+3.7%).
Onion and Shallot Imports in Singapore
In 2022, overseas purchases of onion and shallot decreased by -1.3% to 76K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 4.6%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 77K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
