Onion Price in Belarus (CIF) - 2022
The average onion import price stood at $536 per ton in March 2022, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2022 an increase of 65% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $882 per ton in March 2021; however, from April 2021 to March 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($2,500 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($147 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+20.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average onion export price amounted to $336 per ton, growing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 88%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $347 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($577 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($196 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+21.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the third year in a row, Belarus recorded decline in overseas purchases of onions (dry), which decreased by -35.2% to 7.4K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant decline. The smallest decline of -19.9% was in 2021.
