Onion Price in China (FOB) - 2024
The average onion export price stood at $522 per ton in May 2024, shrinking by -8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2023 an increase of 8.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $587 per ton in January 2024; however, from February 2024 to May 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($771 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($282 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average onion import price amounted to $165 per ton, declining by -64.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 103%. The import price peaked at $533 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
