In March 2024, the average onion export price amounted to $1,336 per ton, which is down by -9.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 120% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,629 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to March 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($2,073 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,145 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In March 2024, the average onion import price amounted to $1,196 per ton, declining by -2.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2024 when the average import price increased by 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,229 per ton, and then reduced slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was India ($4,069 per ton), while the price for Madagascar ($548 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+17.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion Exports in France
