In March 2022, the average onion import price amounted to $726 per ton, rising by 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated tangible growth from March 2021 to March 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2022 figures, onion import price increased by +43.6% against January 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2021 when the average import price increased by 94% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in March 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($804 per ton), while the price for India ($425 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average onion export price amounted to $1,595 per ton, falling by -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 40%. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,383 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($253 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Onion imports into Indonesia skyrocketed to 196K tons in 2022, picking up by 60% on 2021.
