The average onion import price stood at $1,307 per ton in March 2024, surging by 15% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2024 when the average import price increased by 20% m-o-m. The import price peaked in March 2024.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,722 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($953 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
