The average onion import price stood at $575 per ton in April 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $595 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to April 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2024, the country with the highest price was Australia ($875 per ton), while the price for China ($546 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
