Onion Price in Kazakhstan (CIF) - 2022
The average onion import price stood at $121 per ton in 2022, picking up by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $200 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($276 per ton), while the price for Kyrgyzstan ($89 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average onion export price stood at $87 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -20.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 57% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $169 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($196 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($54 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
