The average onion import price stood at $1,008 per ton in March 2024, with an increase of 29% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2024 an increase of 46% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,030 per ton in March 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to March 2024.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,234 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($248 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
