Onion Price in Poland (FOB) - 2024

The average onion export price stood at $1,067 per ton in March 2024, falling by -6.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2024 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,180 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to March 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,105 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($461 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In March 2024, the average onion import price amounted to $186 per ton, surging by 29% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The import price peaked at $682 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to March 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($306 per ton), while the price for Russia ($120 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. 201K tons of onions (dry) were exported from Poland; picking up by 39% on the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, onion exports soared to $114M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
