In March 2024, the average onion export price amounted to $1,021 per ton, increasing by 3.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 14% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,438 per ton. From May 2023 to March 2024, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was France ($1,370 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average onion import price stood at $780 per ton in March 2024, picking up by 2.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 21% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $926 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to March 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($1,454 per ton), while the price for China ($627 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+17.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Onion Imports in Spain
