In March 2024, the average onion export price amounted to $722 per ton, waning by -4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 an increase of 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,094 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to March 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was the UK ($798 per ton), while the average price for exports to Gambia ($467 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In March 2024, the average onion import price amounted to $1,159 per ton, with an increase of 7.6% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from March 2023 to March 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2024 figures, onion import price increased by +24.7% against November 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 32% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in March 2024.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($2,196 per ton), while the price for China ($745 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
