Onion Price in the UK (CIF) - 2024
The average onion import price stood at $961 per ton in March 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.4% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,216 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to March 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Senegal ($1,785 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($541 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average onion export price stood at $1,614 per ton in March 2024, surging by 75% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 78% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,643 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to March 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,907 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($896 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
