Orange Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023
The average orange export price stood at $1,334 per ton in August 2023, rising by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated temperate growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, orange export price increased by +60.1% against November 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 36% m-o-m. The export price peaked in August 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,689 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,004 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Orange Price in Spain (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average orange import price amounted to $792 per ton, surging by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $984 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,185 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($710 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Orange Exports in Spain
In 2022, shipments abroad of oranges increased by 8.7% to 1.6M tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible downturn.
In value terms, orange exports shrank to $1.3B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.5B. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Orange Imports in Spain
In 2022, purchases abroad of oranges decreased by -35.7% to 117K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 194K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, orange imports contracted rapidly to $93M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $191M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The Orange exports reached a peak of 1.9M tons in 2015 but struggled to regain momentum from 2016 to 2023. In terms of value, orange exports amounted to $1.3B in 2023.
Throughout January-September 2021, Spain exported 1.09M tons of oranges, which was -8% less than in the same period last year. In value terms, the supplies abroad rose by +1% to $1.04B due to increasing prices.
