Exports

World Exports of Overhead Travelling Cranes On Fixed Support

For the third year in a row, the global market recorded growth in overseas shipments of overhead travelling cranes on fixed support, which increased by 62% to 16K units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, overhead travelling crane exports surged to $848M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 27%. The global exports peaked at $1B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China prevails in exports structure, accounting for 11K units, which was approx. 67% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United States (775 units), constituting a 5% share of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (399 units), Germany (371 units), Spain (369 units), India (305 units), Turkey (301 units) and the Czech Republic (250 units) - together made up 13% of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the overhead travelling cranes on fixed support exports, with a CAGR of +17.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+17.2%), India (+6.4%) and the United States (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Turkey, Italy and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+38 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkey (-2 p.p.), Spain (-2.9 p.p.), Italy (-2.9 p.p.) and Germany (-9.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($262M) remains the largest overhead travelling crane supplier worldwide, comprising 31% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($54M), with a 6.4% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to -1.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+1.7% per year) and Germany (-7.1% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average overhead travelling crane export price amounted to $54,220 per unit, which is down by -22.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $137,002 per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($148,073 per unit), while China ($24,890 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.5%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
