Packaging Materials Price in Slovakia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average packaging materials export price amounted to $954 per ton, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,162 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Czech Republic ($1,152 per ton) and Turkey ($1,075 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($888 per ton) and Slovenia ($902 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average packaging materials import price stood at $1,058 per ton in 2022, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,802 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Packaging Materials Exports in Slovakia
For the fourth year in a row, Slovakia recorded growth in shipments abroad of packaging materials, which increased by 13% to 312K tons in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 206% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, packaging materials exports surged to $297M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 137%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Packaging Materials Imports in Slovakia
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of packaging materials decreased by -2.1% to 265K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 270K tons, and then fell modestly in the following year.
In value terms, packaging materials imports skyrocketed to $280M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
