Papaya Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average papaya export price amounted to $1,341 per ton, dropping by -4.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,543 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($1,513 per ton) and France ($1,513 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,221 per ton) and the United States ($1,284 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Papaya Exports in Brazil
In 2022, exports of papayas from Brazil declined significantly to 40K tons, reducing by -20.8% against the previous year. In general, exports showed a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 50K tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, papaya exports shrank to $50M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $51M, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
