Papaya Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
The average papaya import price stood at $3,046 per ton in August 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.3% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,443 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($2,823 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Papaya Price in Italy (FOB) - 2022
The average papaya export price stood at $3,601 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -17.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,518 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($8,765 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,903 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Papaya Imports in Italy
In 2022, imports of papayas into Italy dropped rapidly to 3K tons, shrinking by -16.4% against the year before. Overall, imports saw a noticeable decline. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, papaya exports surged to $320K in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
