Papaya Price in Spain (CIF) - 2023
The average papaya import price stood at $2,365 per ton in August 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,533 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Portugal ($3,202 per ton), while the price for Panama ($847 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Papaya Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023
The average papaya export price stood at $2,552 per ton in August 2023, rising by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 27% m-o-m. The export price peaked in August 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to France ($3,225 per ton) and Portugal ($3,065 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($2,297 per ton) and the UK ($2,326 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Papaya Imports in Spain

Papaya Exports in Spain
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of papayas decreased by -18.5% to 6K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 7.4K tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, papaya exports dropped rapidly to $12M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $15M, and then plummeted in the following year.
