Paper and Paperboard Price in Romania (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average paper and paperboard import price amounted to $1,143 per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,509 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($764 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper and Paperboard Price in Romania (FOB) - 2022
The average paper and paperboard export price stood at $1,033 per ton in 2022, increasing by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,118 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,867 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($775 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper and Paperboard Imports in Romania
In 2022, imports of paper and paperboard into Romania rose remarkably to 810K tons, picking up by 7.1% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports skyrocketed to $925M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
