In January 2022, the average petroleum jelly import price amounted to $2,092 per ton, falling by -2.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 109% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,943 per ton. From July 2021 to January 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($2,137 per ton), while the price for Germany totaled $1,988 per ton.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average petroleum jelly export price amounted to $6,306 per ton, reducing by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $6,425 per ton in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, petroleum jelly imports dropped dramatically to $1M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +39.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.3M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
