Petroleum Jelly Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022

The average petroleum jelly import price stood at $1,051 per ton in 2022, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 8.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,572 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Thailand amounted to +22.6% per year.

Petroleum Jelly Price in Uganda (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average petroleum jelly export price amounted to $1,414 per ton, reducing by -5.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 51%. The export price peaked at $2,120 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($1,849 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($638 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Petroleum Jelly Imports in Uganda

In 2022, the amount of petroleum jellies imported into Uganda skyrocketed to 293 tons, increasing by 22% on 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 53%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 342 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, petroleum jelly imports skyrocketed to $308K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $374K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of petroleum jellies increased by 51% to 184 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a drastic downturn.

In value terms, petroleum jelly exports soared to $261K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant contraction.
