In 2022, the average phosphorus import price amounted to $13,247 per ton, increasing by 85% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a buoyant increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to +7.1% per year.
Phosphorus Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, overseas purchases of phosphori decreased by -40% to 9 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 21 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, phosphorus imports rose remarkably to $119K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 163% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $120K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
