Pigeon Peas Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2022
The average pigeon peas import price stood at $1,266 per ton in 2022, falling by -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 258% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $4,000 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($1,284 per ton), while the price for Australia totaled $369 per ton.
From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+47.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average pigeon peas export price amounted to $944 per ton, waning by -18.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 424% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $7,750 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($2,275 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($390 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lao People's Democratic Republic (+100.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of pigeon peas, when their volume decreased by -12.4% to 49 tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year.
In value terms, pigeon peas imports contracted rapidly to $62K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.3% against 2019 indices.
