Plantain Price in the Dominican Republic (FOB) - 2023
In March 2023, the average plantain export price amounted to $1,123 per ton, surging by 22% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2023 to March 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +8.6%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,391 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+53.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plantain Price in the Dominican Republic (CIF) - 2022
In 2020, the average plantain import price amounted to $2,903 per ton, picking up by 194% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 508%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,375 per ton. From 2018 to 2020, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Ecuador.
From 2012 to 2020, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Ecuador amounted to +27.0% per year.
Plantain Exports in the Dominican Republic
Plantain exports from the Dominican Republic amounted to 1.6K tons in 2022, growing by 13% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 76%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 7K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
