Platinum Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average platinum import price amounted to $33.0M per ton, declining by -5.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $35.0M per ton in May 2023, and then shrank in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from South Africa ($33.3M per ton) and Russia ($33.2M per ton), while the price for Japan ($30.2M per ton) and Switzerland ($32.9M per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Price in China (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average platinum export price amounted to $352,443,524 per ton, increasing by 783% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($396,293,042 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($35,526,395 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+172.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Imports in China
In 2022, overseas purchases of platinum decreased by -24.1% to 87 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 114 tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, platinum imports contracted dramatically to $2.6B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4B, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Platinum Exports in China
In 2022, overseas shipments of platinum decreased by -88.3% to 24 kg, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a sharp reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.4 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, platinum exports totaled $8.4M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $107M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
