Plugs and Socket Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2024
The average plugs and socket export price stood at $1.5 per unit in September 2023, declining by -5.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1.8 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($4.4 per unit), while the average price for exports to Japan ($959 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average plugs and socket import price amounted to $755 per thousand units, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.2% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $906 per thousand units in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($1.9 per unit), while the price for Austria ($352 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plugs and Socket Exports in Switzerland
For the third year in a row, Switzerland recorded decline in overseas shipments of electrical plugs and sockets for under 1000 v, which decreased by -7.3% to 522M units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -1.2% was in 2021. The exports peaked at 832M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plugs and socket exports stood at $508M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
