Plywood Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average plywood export price amounted to $1,143 per cubic meter, dropping by -2.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.3% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,198 per cubic meter; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,558 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($822 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plywood Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
The average plywood import price stood at $853 per cubic meter in September 2023, surging by 8.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $940 per cubic meter in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,309 per cubic meter), while the price for Brazil ($435 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plywood Exports in Latvia
In 2022, shipments abroad of plywood decreased by -14.6% to 348K cubic meters, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 441K cubic meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plywood exports surged to $382M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +13.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Plywood Imports in Latvia
In 2022, overseas purchases of plywood decreased by -11.5% to 111K cubic meters, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -23.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 144K cubic meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plywood imports rose modestly to $84M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +77.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
