Potato Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average potato import price stood at $490 per ton in January 2022, jumping by 28% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to January 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($727 per ton), while the price for Belarus ($397 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Potato Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average potato export price stood at $172 per ton in January 2022, with a decrease of -16.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 when the average export price increased by 52% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $237 per ton in April 2021; however, from May 2021 to January 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($932 per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($66.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Potato Imports in Russia
Potato imports into Russia shrank remarkably to 437K tons in 2022, declining by -23.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 121%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 573K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, potato imports contracted sharply to $202M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $241M, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
