The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $2,531 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -3.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,638 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($4,423 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1,348 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average preserved sauerkraut export price stood at $4,984 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 12% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($8,394 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,052 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sauerkraut Imports in the UK
For the fourth year in a row, the UK recorded growth in overseas purchases of preserved sauerkraut, which increased by 31% to 108K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.7% against 2019 indices.
