Preserved Tuna Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023
The average preserved tuna import price stood at $4,015 per ton in November 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 68% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $5,252 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,822 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,439 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Tuna Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average preserved tuna export price amounted to $4,451 per ton, reducing by -2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $7,213 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Montenegro ($4,615 per ton) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($4,544 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($3,431 per ton) and North Macedonia ($4,203 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Tuna Imports in Serbia
For the fourth consecutive year, Serbia recorded growth in purchases abroad of tuna (prepared or preserved), which increased by 11% to 5.4K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved tuna imports expanded significantly to $20M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
