In 2022, the average import price for activated carbon; activated natural mineral products; animal black, including spent animal blacks amounted to $448 per ton, rising by 9.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $813 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,807 per ton), while the price for Spain ($200 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for activated carbon; activated natural mineral products; animal black, including spent animal blacks amounted to $858 per ton, growing by 49% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 146% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,501 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($1,550 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($244 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.4M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In general, exports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 94%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of activated carbon; activated natural mineral products; animal black, including spent animal blacks surged to $36K in 2022. Overall, exports showed significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
