The average import price for alcohols; aromatic alcohols and derivatives, benzyl alcohol stood at $3,498 per ton in 2022, surging by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 50%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,684 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,596 per ton), while the price for India amounted to $2,609 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of alcohols; aromatic alcohols and derivatives, benzyl alcohol decreased by -18.9% to 32 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 68 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of alcohols; aromatic alcohols and derivatives, benzyl alcohol reduced to $112K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated notable growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -23.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 51%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $147K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
