The average import price for alkali metals; other than sodia stood at $5,673 per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, alkali metals; other than sodium import price increased by +41.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,447 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($20,502 per ton), while the price for the United States ($3,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+42.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of alkali metals; other than sodia decreased by -67.8% to 6.9 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 838%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 89 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, alkali metals; other than sodium imports fell significantly to $39K in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 980% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $411K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
