The average export price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms stood at $1,953 per ton in September 2023, with an increase of 38% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decline. The export price peaked at $2,482 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($15,996 per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($1,314 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average import price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms amounted to $1,680 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the import price showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,976 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Norway ($52,306 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,466 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+26.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Alloy Steel Flat-Rolled Products, of A Width of Less than 600mm in Sweden
In 2022, shipments abroad of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms decreased by -2.5% to 42K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 43K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, exports of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms expanded notably to $99M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
