In September 2023, the average import price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms amounted to $4,792 per ton, jumping by 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate expansion from December 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, import price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms increased by +51.4% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($32,228 per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($3,338 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms stood at $3,614 per ton in September 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong expansion from December 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +8.7% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, export price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms decreased by -16.1% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 137% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $4,309 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($6,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($1,193 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+17.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Alloy Steel Flat-Rolled Products, of A Width of Less than 600mm in the Netherlands

For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas purchases of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms, which increased by 18% to 14K tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms declined significantly to $45M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 118%.

In value terms, exports of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms fell sharply to $25M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 235%.
