The average import price for alloy steel, flat-rolled, width 600mm or more, cold-rolleds stood at $986 per ton in May 2024, rising by 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period from May 2023 to May 2024, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 30% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,115 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to May 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,315 per ton), while the price for the UK ($692 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for alloy steel, flat-rolled, width 600mm or more, cold-rolleds stood at $837 per ton in May 2024, dropping by -6.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 42% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,280 per ton. From September 2023 to May 2024, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In May 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Romania ($920 per ton) and Morocco ($920 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($784 per ton) and Canada ($802 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, imports of alloy steel, flat-rolled, width 600mm or more, cold-rolleds soared to $281M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
