In December 2023, the average export price for aluminium; foil, (not backed), of a thickness not exceeding 0.2mm, not rolleds amounted to $4,937 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,994 per ton. From August 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($10,768 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($3,192 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In December 2023, the average import price for aluminium; foil, (not backed), of a thickness not exceeding 0.2mm, not rolleds amounted to $20,453 per ton, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 38% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $25,157 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($32,756 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($5,760 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, exports of aluminium; foil, (not backed), of a thickness not exceeding 0.2mm, not rolleds from China expanded significantly to 296K tons, with an increase of 6.3% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of aluminium; foil, (not backed), of a thickness not exceeding 0.2mm, not rolleds skyrocketed to $1.9B in 2022. In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of aluminium; foil, (not backed), of a thickness not exceeding 0.2mm, not rolleds fell sharply to $345M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep slump. The smallest decline of -0.5% was in 2021.
