In 2022, the average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms amounted to $3,720 per ton, rising by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $4,201 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,628 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($1,575 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $3,238 per ton in May 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2024 an increase of 2.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,600 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to May 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In May 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Paraguay ($4,208 per ton) and Argentina ($3,429 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,035 per ton) and Bolivia ($3,117 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Brazil
In 2022, approx. 116K tons of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms were imported into Brazil; increasing by 15% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
