Price for Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in China (FOB) - 2024
In May 2024, the average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms amounted to $3,064 per ton, picking up by 3.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $3,152 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to May 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In May 2024, the highest price was recorded for prices to South Korea ($3,329 per ton) and India ($3,244 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($2,310 per ton) and Indonesia ($2,493 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $3,857 per ton in May 2024, growing by 1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,997 per ton. From November 2023 to May 2024, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($10,331 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($3,196 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in China
In 2022, approx. 3.6M tons of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms were exported from China; jumping by 22% against the year before. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, exports of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms surged to $13.1B in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
