Price for Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2024
The average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $3,354 per ton in March 2024, dropping by -25% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2024 an increase of 34% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,474 per ton, and then contracted rapidly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($4,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,756 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $3,548 per ton in March 2024, declining by -14.6% against the previous month. Over the period from March 2023 to March 2024, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2023 an increase of 32% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,799 per ton. From January 2024 to March 2024, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($22,981 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,273 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms, when their volume decreased by -34.2% to 32K tons. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 49K tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms shrank significantly to $149M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +18.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $188M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
