Price for Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Hungary (CIF) - 2024
In March 2024, the average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms amounted to $3,937 per ton, reducing by -3.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $4,464 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to March 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($5,275 per ton), while the price for China ($2,137 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $4,575 per ton in March 2024, waning by -5.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2024 an increase of 13% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,846 per ton, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Serbia ($6,163 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($3,476 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Hungary
For the fourth year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in supplies from abroad of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms, which increased by 20% to 137K tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 716% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms skyrocketed to $610M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Hungary
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms decreased by -10.7% to 84K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 134%.
In value terms, exports of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms surged to $415M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
