In December 2023, the average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms amounted to $2,971 per ton, surging by 19% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms increased by +62.3% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 43% m-o-m. The import price peaked in December 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($2,989 per ton), while the price for Thailand stood at $2,918 per ton.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms amounted to $2,642 per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 119%. The export price peaked at $2,698 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,667 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia amounted to $1,240 per ton.
From 2016 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+253.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
