The average export price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $4,201 per ton in May 2024, with an increase of 4.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2023 an increase of 6.8% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,241 per ton in July 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to May 2024.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In May 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Sweden ($5,063 per ton) and Austria ($4,986 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($3,798 per ton) and Spain ($4,366 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms stood at $3,726 per ton in May 2024, rising by 3.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,196 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to May 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,100 per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($1,535 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Aluminium Plates, Sheets and Strip of Thickness Exceeding 0.2 Mm in Switzerland
In 2022, approx. 286K tons of aluminium plates, sheets and strip of thickness exceeding 0.2 mms were exported from Switzerland; growing by 6.1% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
