In November 2023, the average import price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s amounted to $4,204 per ton, which is down by -20.1% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to November 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 an increase of 33% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $5,263 per ton in October 2023, and then declined rapidly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($6,707 per ton), while the price for China ($2,108 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $3,113 per ton in November 2023, rising by 8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 19% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,681 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($8,847 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($2,724 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Aluminium; Plates, Sheets and Strip, Thickness Exceeding 0.2mm, Alloys, Rectangular (Including Square) in Latvia
In 2022, the amount of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s imported into Latvia declined rapidly to 4.6K tons, with a decrease of -23.2% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.9K tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s declined rapidly to $18M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 143% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $23M, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
