The average import price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $3,510 per ton in November 2023, with a decrease of -7.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $4,324 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,791 per ton), while the price for China ($3,031 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $4,309 per ton in November 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,536 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($4,870 per ton) and Mexico ($4,846 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,678 per ton) and Switzerland ($3,783 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Spain recorded growth in purchases abroad of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s, which increased by 20% to 307K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s skyrocketed to $1.2B in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As a result, the exports attained the peak of 196K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
