Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,971 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 0.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,333 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the UK ($2,120 per ton) and the United States ($2,114 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($1,743 per ton) and Malaysia ($1,868 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $2,914 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -2.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 8.4% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $3,099 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Japan.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Mexico amounted to +4.7% per month.

In 2022, approx. 926K tons of aluminium waste and scraps were imported into China; reducing by -9.9% on the previous year. Overall, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports shrank markedly to $1.5B in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2B, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
