Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Colombia (FOB) - 2022
In February 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,878 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period from February 2021 to February 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2021 an increase of 7.3% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,983 per ton in December 2021; however, from January 2022 to February 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In February 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Brazil ($2,403 per ton) and Turkey ($2,130 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($1,649 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,675 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In February 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $2,729 per ton, growing by 3.1% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a moderate expansion from February 2021 to February 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2022 figures, aluminium waste and scrap import price increased by +86.4% against June 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. The import price peaked in February 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2022, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,081 per ton), while the price for Free Zones ($1,434 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Colombia
Aluminium waste and scrap exports from Colombia declined markedly to 33K tons in 2022, which is down by -16.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 40K tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports fell sharply to $51M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $67M, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -29.1% to 2.1K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 170%.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports shrank rapidly to $3.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 173% against the previous year.
